October 2021 Athlete of the Month – Brody Elder

Congratulations to Brody Elder – our Athlete of the Month for October!  Brody has been at Capital City CrossFit for a little less than a year now.  Although only being around for a short time, Brody has made a positive impact on the C3 Community.  He is as consistent as they come, and he is not afraid of hard work.  Through persistence and consistency, Brody is seeing great results.  He continues to get stronger in his lifts which is apparent with each PR, and his gymnastics skills are getting more proficient with every passing week.  Brody has also dialed in his nutrition since beginning his CrossFit journey.  It is visibly clear that the combination of a healthy eating habits and high intensity functional fitness has done wonders for Brody, as he has lost over 50 pounds since February!  Congratulations Brody on the well deserved honor.  Keep up the good work!

In general, what is your background?

I grew up in a small town in Malden, Missouri with my parents and older brother. The majority of my family being from there.  I was always involved in sports, hunting, and fishing. During my high school years, baseball was my main focus. After high school, I went on to play baseball in college for Williams Baptist University. Work and my fiancé is what landed me in Petersburg IL where I currently live.

Age, Occupation?

30 years old and work in Agriculture for a company called BASF. Agriculture has always been in my blood, my family farmed for several generations and I truly believe I’ll always stay in the industry.

How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?

I honestly stumbled across the idea of CrossFit one night through social media. I’ve always been mindful of staying healthy and attending a gym, but I found myself looking for more. I viewed CrossFit as “out of my league” kind of workouts, and the challenge it presented to me was why I started.

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

CrossFit changed my life drastically. With moving and changing jobs I found myself in the worse shape I had ever been in. I was overweight and physically way out of shape for a 30 year old. After 7 months of C3 I can say that I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m 53 pounds lighter and live a much more active lifestyle.

Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.

This one may be a small small goal for most, but one bar muscle up by the end of the year would be a big accomplishment to me!

Favorite CrossFit moment so far?

Kind of hard to narrow down to one, but I would say my favorite moment updates every couple of week and its just personal PR’s. Looking back on some of the times and weights I started with and being able to take those to new levels makes them all memorable moments to me.

What is your least favorite WOD to date?

I’m not sure of the specific name, but I couldn’t remember the workout if I tried! It involved 400m runs, wall balls, double unders, and then burpee box jumps. I want to say it was 4 rounds….. the longest 4 rounds of my life!

What do you like most about Capital City CrossFit?

The community of people, the motivation, and the drive that everyone gives each other!

Favorite exercise?

Power cleans.

Least favorite exercise?

Wall balls, wall balls, and more wall balls…..
